Max Temperature vs. Latitude
Three things to note:
- Temperatures appear to peak not at the equator, but at approximately 15-20 degrees of latitude.
- Southern Hemisphere latitudes only reach -60 degrees due to the distribution of land mass around the globe, and the lack of cities in Antarctica from which we were able to pull data for this project.
- Temperatures seem to decrease more rapidly in the northern hemisphere than in the southern hemisphere. At 40 degrees latitude, the average temperature was approximately 20 degrees Fahrenheit cooler than at -40 degrees latitude. This is likely due again to the larger land mass in the northern hemisphere, with a larger variety of weather conditions.
